Miyota 9075
The Miyota 9075 was unveiled around late 2021 and made its commercial debut in watches such as the LIP Nautic Ski Auto GMT before broader market availability through 2022. It belongs to Miyota's '90 Series' Premium Automatic family — the same lineage as the prolific 9015, which has been in production since 2009.
The 9075 shares its bridge architecture and 26 mm footprint directly with the 9015, effectively extending that platform to accommodate a true-GMT complication. The addition of the independent hour-hand mechanism adds roughly 1 mm to the movement's height compared to the 9015 (4.92 mm vs. 3.90 mm), with the trade-off being a fully independent local hour hand that jumps in one-hour increments without interrupting the running seconds or disturbing the home-time reference — the definition of a 'traveler' or 'true' GMT.
Before the 9075 arrived, affordable true-GMT movements were effectively off-limits to independent watchmakers and microbrands; the prevailing alternatives were either 'caller' or 'pseudo' GMTs that lacked independent hour-hand adjustment, or expensive Swiss-certified options. The 9075 changed the economics of the complication almost immediately, and within two to three years of its introduction it had been adopted by a large number of microbrands and mid-market labels seeking a capable, made-in-Japan true-GMT solution.
